Can NRIs invest in Indian mutual funds using an overseas bank account?

No. NRIs cannot invest directly through an overseas bank account. Investments must be routed through one of the following accounts held with an Indian bank:

  • NRE (Non-Resident External) Account
  • NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) Account
  • FCNR (Foreign Currency Non-Resident) Account
