Is the guardian’s signature valid for switch/redemption requests after majority in a minor-folio mutual fund account?

No. Once the minor turns 18, the guardian’s authority to operate the account automatically ends. As per SEBI rules:

  • The folio is frozen for all transactions until the minor completes the Minor Attaining Majority (MAM) process.
  • Only the now-major investor’s signature will be accepted for redemption or switch requests, including during the Exit Option Period.
  • The investor must submit the MAM form with required documents and attestation before the account becomes operational again.
